Akai APC40 Ableton controller
Here is the superb new music production tool the AKAI APC40 Ableton software controller. Exactly what would transpire should you take a world innovator in computer music software, a world leader in computer music hardware and then ask them to develop a brand new kind of interface?
The answer then is the APC40! The prodigies at Akai and Ableton have joined forces to produce this instinctive new type of USB-MIDI controller designed to work with the additionally modified version of Ableton software that comes with it. The APC 40 includes a 5 by 8 grid of pads which are used to trigger clips in Ableton. Beneath this grid are 8 clip stop buttons, 8 track selection buttons after which a further 24 buttons used for solo/activation and recording etc.
Already the APC40 is loaded with lots of buttons, however to add to this 8 faders, 16 rotary knobs and 8 banks by which to store a particular settings. A transport panel, bank selection buttons and a tap tempo give the APC-40 all of the essential controls to make recording a simple operation and can be used with any software. The APC40 springs to life when combined with the Ableton software. Once the designated samples are loaded into Ableton, all that is remaining to do is handle them using the APC-40, you don’t even need to glance at the computer screen through the entire session.
Aphex Twin – Come to Daddy
Yeah, I know, 1997, er, retro !?!
Just an excuse to get some Aphex Twin on the site:
Retro Music Vid:
The Associates at Ronnie Scott’s 1984
The Prodigy: Out Of Space
Out of Space was the fourth single released by The Prodigy on 9 November 1992.
While it’s fair to say the video can’t realy be called a classic, the tune stands the test of time, still one of my favourite tracks, so … “Pay close attention, I’ll take your brain to another dimension.”
